In Saint-Nicolas-de-Port, a former brewery, listed as a Historic Monument, houses a museum dedicated to the history of beer and brewing techniques.
Operating from 1786 to 1985, the Saint-Nicolas-de-Port brewery is part of a long local brewing tradition. The old buildings, emblematic of the Meurthe-et-Moselle industrial heritage, include remarkable features. Among them, the Art Deco-style brewing tower, a mosaic depicting a beer topped with a rooster, the brewery's symbol, as well as stained-glass windows by master glassmaker Jacques Grüber.
Several spaces reveal the different stages of beer production: a reconstructed 18th-century malt house, a former laboratory, a hop room and, of course, the brewing room, with its gleaming vats.
This museum also features a collection of advertising objects from numerous French breweries—enameled signs, glasses, and posters. Brewing demonstrations and temporary exhibitions are regularly held.
The tour allows visitors to discover the majesty of the premises and rediscover the industrial atmosphere of the era. It concludes in the cellar with a tasting of a beer specially brewed for the French Brewery Museum.
