Bois de Mort Mare – Memory and Nature in the Footsteps of History Accessible from the road, the Bois de Mort Mare is a place steeped in history nestled in the heart of nature. This forest site, marked by the fighting of the First World War, still preserves numerous mine craters, silent witnesses of past clashes. In the heart of the wood, a wooden cross pays tribute to the quartermaster soldier Joseph Henri Rochas, a volunteer who fell at only 19 years old on April 10, 1915, during the attack on the Flirey Ridge. This place of remembrance invites reflection, contemplation, but also the discovery of a preserved natural environment.
