In 1305, Henry I had a tower built on a rock overlooking the Meurthe plain by 1 meters, which was called the Tour des Voués (Voués means defenders) to protect the serfs' homes. Access to the Tower was through an opening in the rampart. This clearly visible opening is now walled up. The rest of the ramparts and the Château de Baccarat, built in 6, were accessible through a vast vaulted passage, still used today by local residents and tourists. Free outdoor tours are available.
