
Built in 997, at the time of the bishop of Verdun. It suffered from various sieges by the inhabitants of Metz, Charles the Bold and the Huguenots. It is made up of 10th-century large polygonal outer walls with 7 circular towers and one square tower. The whole place was modified over the 16th century and is embedded in the middle of houses leaned against its 20 meters high fortifications.
Guided tour from the outside of the castle ramparts. Must also be seen, the museum of Amis du Vieux Pays situated in the partly restored castle. It presents the Gallo-Roman relics of Scarponne area. The long roman road from Lyon to Trève through Metz, crossed the Moselle in the city of Dieulouard, ancient Scarponne, this village installed on the low alluvial terrace was divided into islets, linked by stony and wooden bridges and was, during the Middle Ages, a strategic place of the Moselle crossing.
