Fontenoy-la-Joûte is a very special village in Meurthe-et-Moselle, as it is known as the “book village”.
This 12th century villagee century, typically Lorraine, is home to eleven booksellers for 300 inhabitants. Located in former farms, the booksellers offer many types of books: novels, comics, science fiction, and children's literature. Old and second-hand books are available side by side and are accessible for all budgets.
In addition to bookstores, Fontenoy-la-Joûte is also home to a calligrapher and artisans. In the former printing house, a restaurant with an evocative name has been established and continues to pay homage to literary tradition.
Accessible year-round, this village is located a few kilometers from Baccarat. Cultural events are regularly held there. After Bécherel (Ille-et-Vilaine) and Montolieu (Aude), Fontenoy-la-Joûte is the third French book village, a project aimed at revitalizing the rural environment. Since 1996, it has welcomed thousands of visitors each year.
