In Meurthe-et-Moselle, between Lunéville and Blâmont, the Manonviller fort is a fortification built at the end of the 19th centurye century inherited from the Séré de Rivières system. Its purpose was to prevent enemy incursions through the Vezouze valley.
This stronghold played an important role during the First World War, protecting the Charmes Gap, a strategic passage between Toul and Epinal, before being heavily bombarded by German artillery in August 1914. Thanks to the volunteers who organize guided tours, the Manonviller Fort offers a fascinating visit. Exploring the different parts of the structure allows visitors to discover its history and relive the fighting from the inside. Objects and archival documents complete the visit.
Located in the heart of a Natura 2000 classified environment, this fort is recognized as a refuge by the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO).
