In Pont-à-Mousson, the Premonstratensian Abbey is a magnificent example of 18th-century monastic architecture. Steeped in history, it was the home and place of prayer of the canons of the Premonstratensian Order.
Guided or self-guided tours are available to visitors to explore this ancient religious building. The true heart of the abbey, the cloister leads to the historic rooms open to the public: the boiler room, the refectory, and the abbey church. Its columns topped with Corinthian caps are grandiose. Three monumental staircases lead to the first floor, where the Grandpierre Library and its collection of works from the 16th to the 21st century are located. The history of the abbey is also explained through a series of educational panels.
The abbey's parks invite you to stroll. The French-style garden in the main courtyard captivates with its geometric lines and views of the various facades. In the cloister courtyard, the Garden of Scents evolves with the seasons. Along the banks of the Moselle River, a park planted with century-old lime trees offers a panoramic view of the town of Pont-à-Mousson.
A cultural center, the Prémontrés Abbey offers a varied program of exhibitions and events, to be seen throughout the year in Meurthe-et-Moselle.
