The Chartreuse was founded in 1666 by Duke Charles IV to accommodate Carthusians from Rettel (Moselle), who first settled at the Sainte-Anne estate in Laxou and then in the more secluded valley of Bosserville, located on the banks of the Meurthe. Its stones came from the fortifications of Nancy, which Louis XIV had just dismantled. It was built in a classical style by the Italian architect Giovanni Betto. The buildings are now occupied by a private vocational high school, which explains why visits can only take place under certain conditions.
