Nancy's Old Town is the historic heart of the ducal city, a district of undeniable charm that extends from the old town itself to the immediate surroundings of Cours Léopold. It also encompasses several green and architectural gems, such as the Parc de la Pépinière and the majestic Place de la Carrière. This district is an integral part of Nancy's protected sector, a status that testifies to its rich heritage. It is also home to one of the three famous squares classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site - Place de la Carrière - elegant, discreet, but oh so remarkable. Several old streets with evocative names - Rue du Haut-Bourgeois or Rue de la Monnaie, to name but a few - lead to Cours Léopold. The latter, laid out in 1778 on the site of the former rampart moats, forms, with Place Carnot, a vast, open and lively space. The old town is framed by the Porte de la Craffe to the north, and crossed from one side to the other by the Grande-Rue, a veritable historical backbone that connects it from north to south. To the east, it borders on the more recent city center, while to the south, the northern end of Place Stanislas marks its border with the Ville-Neuve district.
