The Lunéville Synagogue was the first to be built in France since the Middle Ages, "by permission of King Louis XVI", between 1785 and 1786. This synagogue has been listed as a historical monument since 1980. The facade of the synagogue is part of the Lorraine architectural tradition. Covered with a veneer of pink Vosges sandstone, it bore witness, before being hammered during the Revolution, to the integration of the Jewish community in Lunéville. Several symbols sculpted on the frieze that separates the first from the second level, showed the gratitude of the Jewish community towards King Louis XVI. On the second level, the opulent garland of vine branches and the crown, partly hammered, would symbolize the Jewish people and the Law transmitted by God to Moses. On the side, a small door was reserved for children, so that they could leave the synagogue without disturbing the service. The building is open during worship hours. Visits on request.
