The Domjevin Underground Military Hospital is a surgical hospital built by the French army (stretcher bearers of the 73rd Infantry Regiment) on a hillside between 1916 and 1918, served by a railway line from the end of 1916. Located immediately behind the front, it was intended for the wounded who were deemed untransportable. A remarkable construction for the time, the entire underground site was classified as a Historic Monument in 1922. Today, only 3 perpendicular galleries are still visible. The 2 entrances are still clearly visible; but the entire Underground Military Hospital included other parts, including an operating room, an X-ray room, a pharmacy, a store, a kitchen, etc., all powered by a generator used for heating, ventilation and lighting. In January 1918 the structure was completed, however it seems that it was little or not used. Free visit (bring a flashlight).
