Once a small farming and wine-growing village nestled at the confluence of the Meurthe and Moselle rivers, Pompey underwent a radical transformation in 1872, when two Moselle entrepreneurs decided to establish their steelworks in the area where orchards and vineyards flourished. Until its closure and dismantling in 1986, the factory was the beating heart of Pompey, which had become a truly industrial and cosmopolitan town. At its peak, it employed 5 people from the town and surrounding areas.
