Nestled in a wooded valley in Vilcey-sur-Trey, the Abbey of Sainte-Marie-au-Bois was founded in the early 12th century by St. Norbert. Classified as a Historical Monument since 1929, it was fortunate to be spared from the fighting during the First World War. The abbey's historical and architectural significance reflects the evolution of the abbey from the 12th to the 16th centuries.
