Book

These marl hillsides north of Nancy are home to relatively dense grasslands and shrubby areas that spontaneously evolve into deciduous forests. Traces of various human activities are clearly visible: the exploitation of small quarries, old pastures, a receiving antenna, and power lines. A few saps and trenches remain, witnesses of past wars. The site is protected by the Conservatoire des Sites Lorrains and belongs to the commune of Jeandelaincourt. The Mont Saint Jean site is equipped with educational panels. A 5-kilometer hiking trail allows visitors to explore the site as a whole and offers breathtaking views of the village and the countryside below. The limestone grassland, which occupies most of the site, has a diverse wild flora. Mont Saint-Jean has old military saps from the First World War. Dug into the karst, they provide an underground environment conducive to the hibernation of bats.
